Dumfries Women’s 2s 0 - 1 Hillhead Women’s 5s

Similar to the men’s 2s, the women’s 2s found themselves facing a Hillhead team, after a heavy defeat the previous Saturday in their first league game of 2026. Though the squad of 14 players hoped for a close encounter at Home.

The game started, with both teams settling in – Hillhead were moving the ball well amongst their players, but Dumfries were breaking down their play and making their own in-roads on the Hillhead midfield/defence. Down the left, Beata in midfield and Susan in defence were working well to contain the Hillhead attacks, backed up by the Angies, whilst some timely interceptions saw the ball get moved up the right side to Phoebe, from Angie B and Gladys. Play was fairly even in the first half and then, just as Dumfries were pressing higher, Hillhead inexplainably slipped through and Dumfries were one down.

From that point on possession was 50/50, Hillhead won a number of penalty corners and free hits, but Dumfries contained them and arguably played the better hockey – breaking down play, with Lily; Angie M and Angie clearing the ball from the defensive D, passing the ball between each other and attacking Hillhead, with Kate getting the ball through to Jenna and up to Phoebe up the right; and Emma getting the ball through to Beata up the left, and through to Gladys, with the forwards from Ava; Caitlin; and Danni running into the attack. Unfortunately, Dumfries just could not create a goal-scoring chance and the game ended in a 0-1 win for Hillhead.
