Saturday the 22nd November, saw the Dumfries ladies 2s embark on the long drive up the west coast to battle it out with the Greenock ladies 2s. Unfortunately the day started with our amazing goalkeeper, Lily Callander, being unwell and unable to join the team. Nevertheless,Cerys Given bravely stepped up and put on the kit.
With Greenock securing pushback, the Dumfries ladies were immediately on the defensive. The ball made its way down the middle. Greenock players lifting the ball frequently. Cerys deftly kicked the ball away, with a number of shots coming her way. Unfortunately a ball snuck through, to put the Greenock girls one up by the first quarter.
The battle continued, and Dumfries were predominantly on the defensive, with the midfields constantly dropping back to support the defensive line. The ladies in red struggled to get the ball back into their attacking half, and would hit a wall of Greenock players in the centre. Some nice play was seen up both wings, however the ladies only managed to get into the Greenock’s D on one occasion.
hoebe Hodgson, had to take herself off for a little while, after recovering from illness, and our right midfield, Phoeoba Adamsn-Cell, struggled with her hip, however they both fought on.
Unfortunately, the cycle repeated itself a number of times, and the ball made its way into the centre of Greenock players and in the end Greenock secured 6 goals.
On this occasion, the Dumfries ladies 2s were unfortunate, however they worked well getting in to formation and were communicating well.
