Dumfries Ladies 1s travelled to Glasgow for their first away game of the season to face a strong Glasgow Uni 3s squad of 18. From the first whistle, Dumfries kept their composure, moving the ball well and making good use of the space across the pitch. Their early pressure paid off when Beth McCall played a great ball across the D for Jenna Drife to deflect into the goal, giving Dumfries the lead.
Glasgow Uni responded quickly with a few attacking breaks, but Dumfries’ defence held firm. Building from the back, Dumfries worked the ball forward again with some neat passing. Jen Nicholson found Beth in space, who fired the ball into the D for Rebecca Topping to finish superbly into the bottom corner, making it 2–0.
Glasgow Uni pressed back hard and pulled one back with a straight strike into goal. Dumfries refocused and were rewarded with a penalty corner. Beth’s strike rebounded off the post, but Bex reacted quickly to slot it home, restoring the two-goal cushion. Dumfries went into half-time 3–1 ahead.
The home side came out strongly after the break and scored with a slick reverse hit to make it 3–2. Dumfries kept working and extended their lead once more when Bex drove along the baseline and fired in her second of the game. In the final quarter, Glasgow Uni threw everything forward, using their fresh legs to increase the tempo. Dumfries’ defence dug deep, with some excellent saves and clearances, including a goal-line stop from Emily Anderson.
The final whistle blew with Glasgow Uni earning one last penalty corner, but Dumfries stayed solid to secure a 4–3 win and their first away victory of the season.
Special mention to Eilidh Topping and Alison Russell for playing out of position in defence & doing a sterling job & to Beth McCall for being POM
