Dumfries 2s played their first Sunday game of the Season with a few extra 1s players to help boost the numbers.
Unfortunately the game couldn’t have got to a worse start when the Rottenrow keeper from the previous game played up front and for some unknown reason was not marked at all when he was just above the D. He received a quick pass and scored against the extremely and understandingly so Calum who was in goals .
0-1 with less than 30 seconds gone.
The first quarter continued in the same vein with some fast play from the opposition leading to a further 2 goals.
End of Q1 0-3
The second quarter was a much better performance from the Dumfries side who have a couple of opportunities from short corners and also open play but either put their shots wide or the Rottenrow keeper saved well.
Half time 0-5
After some words of encouragement in the Half time team talk Dumfries continued to have some excellent build up play in the 3rd quarter but still couldn’t find that all elusive goal.
End of Q3 0-8.
The final quarter was a mirror of the 3rd quarter with Dumfries creating chances but no luck and they also conceded another.
However with only seconds to play after another a lot of sustained pressure and some great passing the ball came to Max Dunlop who struck a hard rising shot from the top of the D , the defender glanced the ball but it flew into the top of the D . The whole of the team cheered and celebrated the goal and they must have thought it was Tuesday training with “ Next goal being the winner “
Final score Dumfries 1-9 Rottenrow
Max Dunlop was voted Young player of the Match however this was again another good performance from the whole team , who now have achieved a determined performance for the last 4 games and continue to improve with them playing to the end , regardless of the score line.
