After a stiff test last week the 2s travelled to Hillhead for what was anticipated to be another difficult game.
The opening quarter started with Dumfries having to defend but from a break away Gordon received a pass from Iain and he had an excellent shot but the keeper made a great save.
Hillhead continued to press and got their first goal.
After more Hillhead pressure a penalty corner given away from Mikey’s usual poor feet placement while attempting to defend , Liam was unlucky to deflect the ball into the top of the goal whilst rushing to block the shot, a finish that a top striker would be proud of.
The 2nd quarter continued in the same vein and unfortunately another goal was conceded
Half time Hillhead 3-0 Dumfries
Positive words were given at half time as Dumfries were still in the game.
Although there was some good play in the 3rd quarter by Dumfries the score line was only kept down to some good saves by Calum but the team conceded another goal to make it 4-0.
Two quick goals in the final quarter meant Dumfries were chasing a goal which their good play deserved.
Dumfries created a few good chances and it looked like they were going to get it when Josh was near the goals and flicked the ball goal bound, unfortunately for him and the team the defender on the line cleared the ball.
Final result Hillhead 6-0 however the score line didn’t reflect how the whole Dumfries squad stuck in till the final whistle and played good hockey in parts of the game.
