After travelling to Glasgow some of the Dumfries side might have thought the game was played 24 hours earlier as an extremely strong Hillhead team appeared to have several players who had played against Dumfries 1s team on Saturday.
Unfortunately for the Dumfries side their first Sunday game seemed to mean that the defence were still in bed for the first quarter as the marking was not existent and although Stu Boulton made some excellent saves Dumfries were 3-0 down at the end of quarter one due to defense splitting passes to unmarked players.
The second quarter started a lot better for Dumfries who decided to wake up and create some good chances but their shots were wide of the mark.
However in the middle of the quarter Dumfries were awarded a penalty corner were after the initial Callander shot was saved and a few deflections the ball came to Ryan who smashed the ball into the top corner with a fine shot.
Half time 3-1
With Dumfries still in the game the 3rd quarter began but unfortunately it was a replica of the 1st quarter with Hillhead well on top and again Boulton making some great saves but 2 goals were conceded.
The 4th quarter was again a far improved performance and Dumfries again had a few chances but no goal was forthcoming.
However midway through the final quarter Josh picked up a lose ball inside Hillheads half and with some good skills drove into the 25 when he spotted Gordon and with a lovely pass through the defenders legs to Gordon who took the pass and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper into the back of the net.
Final score 5-2
Although the team was disappointed this was a great performance as we won 2 quarters plus yet again we scored the last goal proving our young team never gave up. The Captain again checked with the umpires but just like in Dumfries the last goal wasn’t the winner.
Although a defeat what should be taken from the game was the team we’re playing against a lot older players and the majority are playing in higher leagues than themselves and didn’t give up at all.
Player of the match was Ryan Mills who also scored his first goal of the Season.
