The match started briskly and Dumfries quickly took the game to the Giffnock defence as the visitors struggled to get close to their opponents as the Dumfries side dominated the midfield play. Despite their ascendancy in possession, none of the attacks resulted in Dumfries making a breakthrough as the Giffnock Keeper kept his side in the game with a string of comfortable saves. As it was and as a result of a rare counter-attack, it was Giffnock who took advantage of a mistake by the Dumfries centre-half who shall remain nameless, midway through the half to fire home a shot from the top of the D to score the only goal of the match. This goal however spurred Dumfries on for the remainder of the half but despite a lot of possession and sustained pressure, the Giffnock goal couldn’t be breached with the visiting Keeper making a vital save to deflect a goalbound shot past his post on the stroke of halftime following a well worked short corner.Turning round at half time, Dumfries started off the second period much like they had finished the first half although Giffnock did create several opportunities of their own to increase their lead but failed to do so. This kept the game finely balanced all the way through to the final whistle. Despite numerous chances carved out by the home side, an equaliser escaped them as time run out in what was an evenly contested game.
Grateful thanks to Gladys and the Giffnock Umpire for umpiring the game.
