The men in red looked to get the new league season off to a positive start after an early exit in the cup last weekend. Dumfries came out the blocks fast but couldn't get an early goal. The game then settled down with Kelburne having the majority on the ball but Dumfries looking threatening on the counter. It was one of these counters that finally broke the deadlock when Aitkens pass found Kershaw free in the D. He then beat the defender and squared it to McFarlane who scored at the second time of asking. 0-1. The second quarter started in a similar fashion with Kelburne controlling most of possession but this time creating more opportunities. However despite this it was Dumfries who doubled the lead, with McFarlane winning a short corner after a good counter attack. Johnston pulled out to Aitken, who smashed the ball into the goal. 0-2.
HT. 0-2.
A positive half time team talk from the visitors and they were ready to go again. The third quarter got very scrappy with lots of misplaced passes from both sides and a lot of poor tackles. Kelburne took advantage of this and scored a short corner. 1-2. A number of good saves from Oakes kept Dumfries in the lead and the final quarter was similar but Dumfries were more solid defensively. Dumfries once again turned over the ball high and regained their two goal lead when Johnston and McFarlane went two on one v the keeper and Johnstons pass was tapped in by McFarlane. 1-3. Kelburne rallied in the final minutes and scored again from a short corner. 2-3. Dumfries managed to hold on in the final minutes to take all three points.
FT. 2-3
