On Saturday 23rd March Dumfries M1s welcomed Clydesdale to KGV for the second fixture between them this
season. Dumfries started with the ball and knocked it round well, with J Aitken in midfield dictating
the tempo, occasionally penetrating the Clydesdale back line, but were unable to beat the visitors’
defence. Clydesdale had a go at Dumfries a few times and looked to use the pace of familiar face
Mitchell Pritchard to stretch the Dumfries defence, but he was expertly marshalled by R Carson and
S Marshall at the back. Dumfries almost found a way through 20 minutes into the game with M
Cathie unfortunate to put the ball wide of the goal. At the other end Clydesdale won a couple of
short corners, one saved by young goalkeeper E Oakes and the other cleared by R Carson on the
right post. This was followed up by Clydesdale eventually managing to break the deadlock with the
last touch of the first half to put them a goal up going into the break.
Clydesdale started with the ball in the second half and is wasn’t long before they doubled their lead
after a cut back from Clydesdale into the middle of the D. Dumfries tried to get back into the game
and some neat link up play between J Aitken and R Johnston almost got them through, but the
Clydesdale defence held out. Shortly after this, A Stapleton received a green card and with it 2
minutes on the sideline for not being the required 5 metres away from a Clydesdale sideline ball.
Dumfries managed to keep Clydesdale at bay while they were down to 10 men, although soon after
getting back to a full compliment Clydesdale scored again. After the third goal the Dumfries back
line defended well for the remainder and the score remained unchanged at 3-0.
Player of the match for this game was Robert Milne for his combative performance in midfield.
