Following on from the U10s festival, it was the turn of the U14s playing 8-a-side on 1/3 of a pitch. The Dumfries team consisted of (from left to right below):
Jorah; Miriam and Anna, joined by Ayley; Abi; Evie; Thalia from Phoenix (Irvine HC), and Lena from Clydesdale (missing from photo).
The U14s played seven 10 minute games against Clydesdale; Kelburne; Ayr; Hillhead B; GHK; Uddingston; and Hillhead A. This was a first festival for Miriam, and the Phoenix girls, and a step-up for 10-year old Jorah who played U12s last week.
From the minute the team took to the pitch, it was obvious that they were more than willing to play their part in winning the ball, moving it on, and supporting each other. Then, as games passed, it was great to see them linking together and putting into action what had been discussed between games. There were close games; there were tough games; and everything in between, but the effort was the same throughout - only dampened by fatigue towards the end of the day.
Well done to our goal scorers - Ayley (1) and Jorah (2). Well done: Lena for excellent defending and movement of the ball, Abi for great defending and breaking up play, Miriam for great tackling and great clearances, Anna for great tackling and passing, and movement off and on the ball, Evie and Thalia for all those solid tackles, and great running. It was brilliant for Iain (from Phoenix) and myself to work with this team today. Thank You All.
