Dumfries started the game well but were wasteful in the final third with both Johnston and Aitken missing good opportunities, while the Dumfries defense kept Clydedale from creating anything. As the first half was nearly finished Dumfries finally made the break through. An excellent long pass from Boulton played in Johnston who played a 1-2 and passed the ball into the empty goal. 0-1. Steele was only called into action a couple of times and dealt with the danger.
