Dumfries Ladies 1s travelled to Clydesdale Western on a sunny Saturday to take on their 4s, with a slightly depleted squad of just 11 players compared to recent weeks.
Dumfries got off to a strong start, but despite some lovely passing and great teamwork, Clydesdale opened the scoring after nine minutes to make it 1–0. Dumfries continued to play some excellent hockey, working well together and creating opportunities, but Clydesdale doubled their lead with a penalty corner just before half-time, leaving Dumfries 2–0 down at the break.
The 1s came out for the second half determined to get on the scoresheet and close the gap. Some fantastic team play saw the ball move from Kathryn in defence, through Eilidh in midfield, and out to Bex down the left-hand side. A lovely ball across the top of the D found Steph in space, but Morven’s final effort narrowly missed the goal.
Clydesdale fought back, extending their lead to 3–0 after a youngster found herself one-on-one with Dumfries keeper Ally and calmly found the back of the net.
Despite tiring legs and a challenging game, Dumfries continued to battle hard and were rewarded for their efforts just before the final whistle. A penalty corner, injected by Effie, found Morven on the left of the D, who swept the ball beautifully into the bottom-left corner of the goal to get Dumfries on the scoresheet!
Final score: 3–1 to Clydesdale Western 4s. The first loss of the season for the 1s, but plenty of positives to take away from a great team effort!
A big thank you to Katie for coming along to umpire!
