Dumfries Ladies kicked off their home campaign in style with a fantastic 2–0 victory over last season’s league winners, Ayr 1s, in the team’s first match on the new pitch.

The first half was a tightly contested, with both teams creating opportunities and putting pressure on each other’s defence. Dumfries’ back line stood strong, with Jane Young producing two unbelievable goal-line saves to keep the score level at 0–0 going into half time.

The breakthrough finally came in the third quarter, when Dumfries were awarded a penalty corner. Morven Dobie calmly converted to put Dumfries 1–0 ahead. Ayr responded by putting the Dumfries defence under pressure, but some excellent interceptions and quick passing allowed Dumfries to manage the pressure and keep Ayr at bay.

Dumfries then doubled their advantage in the fourth quarter with a fantastic piece of open play. Jenna Drife drove forward into the back line before picking out Morven, who was left with an open goal to finish and make it 2–0. The final five minutes saw Ayr throw everything at Dumfries, earning several penalty corners as they searched for a way back into the game. However, the Dumfries defence held firm, showing brilliant composure and determination to see out the final minutes and secure a well-earned clean sheet and a 2–0 victory.
