As usual the Mix of experience and Youthful Mens 2s travelled for their first game of the Season wondering what the New Season would bring.

The side was hopeful of a good performance especially after an encouraging draw in a Friendly against the same opponents just 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately the game started in the worse possible way when after a scramble in the Dumfries D , Taylor decided to smash the ball into his own net with a finish that any striker would have been proud of giving Calum absolutely no chance in goal.
The first quarter continued with Clydesdale having the majority of the ball and possession and the scoreline only remained the same by some good saves by Calum in goals.

End of 1st quarter Clydesdale 6s 1-0 Dumfries

After a tactical chance recommended by Iain Dumfries started getting more of the ball and created a few chances but without success.

However in the middle of the 2nd quarter Iain got hold of the ball and slotted a pin pinpoint pass to Gordon who had made a great run behind the defense into the D and neatly slotted the ball passed the rushing goalkeeper into the back of the net

Half time Clydesdale 1 - 1 Dumfries

The second half started with both teams having chances to score but no goals were scored but it wasn’t too long before the debutant Blair placed a great pass to Liam who drove into the D and lifted the ball over the keeper. Unfortunately Dumfries hardly had time to celebrate the goal when Clydesdale quickly did a great passing move to score again.
It could have got worse for the Dumfries team after Iain blocked a goalward bound shot but Calum placed himself on the goal line and psyched out the Penalty Shot young taker who unfortunately put his shot wide of the goal.

After some more pressure a short corner was awarded to Dumfries. The ball was interjected to Iain who made a glance for any of the young boys to be at the posts he tried a hard pass at the Top of the D but was deflected high up in the air forward and went fortunately into the back of the net.

Unfortunately Dumfries didn’t learn from the last time when they took the lead as just within the minute after they scored , the Clydesdale striker was left unmarked in the Dumfries D and when the ball was struck hard to the striker who took the very slightest of touches to again make the scores level.

End of Quarter 3 Clydesdale 3 -3 Dumfries

The final quarter began and early in the quarter Iain intercepted a pass in the 25 and dribbled passed a few defenders into the D and was composed and sat the Goalkeeper down and flicked the ball into an empty net.
Dumfries knew this tine time if they didn’t concede they would start the Season with a great win.
Clydesdale kept creating chances and it was only time after a well worked move a goal was scored by them with still enough time for a potential winner.
However Dumfries held out in the final few minutes to a well deserved draw.

Final score Clydesdale 4 - 4 Dumfries

Every team player put in a great effort against an older and well drilled team but special mention to Blair Gunning who made his League debut and didn’t look out of place.

Well done to Gordon Holmes and Liam Mills who after the Team vote were joint Player of the Game.
