With the Mens 2s travelling to the undefeated Dale side without both Callanders the team knew that the task would be extremely difficult.

The start of the game couldn’t have got off to a worse start after a poor pass from Mikey to the opposition resulted in the Dales first goal. The defence hadn’t had time to regroup before another good move resulted in another goal.
The first quarter continued in the same vein and the score line would have been higher without some good saves from Calum.

End of first quarter 2-0

After a positive team talk the Dumfries side seemed like a different team and were back in the game playing some better hockey. The midfield of Josh , Adam , Flint, Ryan & Tom passing the ball between them up to Gordon and John.This created pressure which resulted in a short corner where Adam through a deflected shot thought he had scored which would have made the game interesting. However it was disallowed as the ball never got out of the D before going into the net.

Half time 2-0

Unfortunately the third quarter was where the Defence of Taylor, Liam ,Phil and Mikey were put under intense pressure as the Dale took off their Adults and their younger team pressed the ball high up the pitch which resulted in a very one sided quarter with 5 goals been conceded.

The final team talk of the Season was given and with everyone knowing we were better than how we played in Quarter 3 the Dumfries side again played as a team and created more chances.In the middle of the final quarter Adam beat a few players and passed the ball to John in the Centre circle who played a pin point pass to Gordon who was leading to the 23, Gordon picked up the ball in space and ran into the D to face the goalie one on one , with great skill Gordon saw the goalie going to ground and flicked his shot high over the goalie into the back of the net for a great goal. The Away supporters cheered loudly.

Unfortunately with only a few minutes to go the Dale pressed forward and scored 2 late goals which broke Dumfries’s recent record of scoring last in the last few games.

However the whole team should be proud as yet again they never stopped trying and were up against a team of alot older youngsters who were promoted to Division 2 several weeks ago so it gives Dumfries a good base to improve on in 2026/27
